On-line Collections at the Livingston Masonic LibraryThe collections in the care of The Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library of Grand Lodge are the property of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York, F&AM. Book CatalogAny library shelf list is an eternal work in progress. New books are constantly being added, while existing records are reviewed, revised, updated and corrected as new information comes to light. While we feel confident that our catalog will meet the needs of most of our researchers, we ask your understanding as we continue to refine the entries. We will also be revising and refining the user interface of the Athena© catalog. Your comments are appreciated. Please keep these quick tips in mind when using the catalog:
Artifact Collections (NEW)The Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library is pleased to announce that we have entered into a partnership with the George Washington National Masonic Memorial Association, Alexandria, VA, to take part in the Memorial’s development of the United States Masonic Digital Collection. This online compilation of Masonic material will utilize the Content DM© software program, licensed by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), Inc., of Dublin, OH. Our regular patrons are familiar with Content DM, as it is the software that has presented our Online Museum for the past five years. The Memorial’s Digital Collection project allows us to migrate our Online Museum so that it may be viewed alongside collections from other Masonic Grand Lodges, institutions and private collectors who display their holdings through the Memorial’s portal. The partnership allows online patrons to compare, contrast, study and appreciate Masonic artifacts and pieces of text from across geographic and generational boundaries. We know that the Digital Collection project will pave the way for expanded access and analysis of Masonic literary and material culture within the United States. HOW TO USE THE SITE To view our Online Museum Collections, press the link below, which will open a new window on your screen. Use the drop-down field toward the top of the homepage to select collections starting with the prefix [NY] to view artifacts from the Livingston Library’s collection. Read the rest of the descriptive line to select a collection by artifact type, or select one of our Special Collections from the list, which are described by name.
Collections from other Grand Lodges and institutions also appear on the drop-down list. You can browse these holdings according to the level of access allowed by each participating member. Please note that some collections have limited access. You can also use Content DM’s search functions to search and compare material from across all collections in the Digital Collection.
At this time, most of the other holdings in the Digital Collection are text files, which document Masonic activities in various sections of our country. Over time, you will see more text files and artifact collections added to the Digital Collections. We hope that you will visit our collections often, as well as making frequent visits to our partner institutions in the Digital Collection.
If you have our Online Museum bookmarked, please remember to update your browser so you know where to find us.
