AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: James Wasserman, The Secrets of Masonic Washington
Author James Wasserman presented a stirring lecture at the Livingston Masonic Library on May 29, with a standing room only audience. About 55 masons and friends sat on the edge of their seats as Wasserman discussed “Freemasonry and the Quest for Liberty.” He shared his thoughts on the crucial role that Freemasonry has played in the development of political liberty worldwide, with special emphasis on the founding of the new American Republic. Wasserman explored the idea that political theory is a spiritual value, tracing its value from biblical times.

Library Director Tom Savini echoed the comments of all present, praising Wasserman’s topic, insight and intellectual presentation. A lively Q&A followed.

Wasserman is the author of “The Secrets of Masonic Washington” which provides an exquisitely illustrated tour of the spiritual, esoteric, religious, and mythic symbols of our nation’s Capital. From the magnificent monument erected to Freemason and first President George Washington, to the classic pantheon built to honor Enlightenment philosopher and Declaration of Independence author Thomas Jefferson, Washington, D.C. is a hymnal in stone. “This book is an archaeological expedition to a ‘lost city’ whose mystical treasures and traditions are hidden in plain sight—a city designed and built as the beating heart of a spiritual entity that transcends all religions—whose very streets invoke the invisible energies that drive the evolution of human consciousness—a city inspired by a civic priesthood we know today as Freemasonry.” —Lon Milo DuQuette, 32°
